Living and Cooking in Copenhagen

Woke up and had orientation! It was fun to see all the people on the program. After I got lunch at a cute sandwich shop with my roommate and two other of my housemates! It was delicious! We also joined a gym today:) so excited. We're getting ready to go out tonight. Can't wait to meet more great people!

I live in a large apartment in the city center of Copenhagen. I seriously got so lucky on my location. I'm living on Skindergade 14 on the 3rd floor. The building starts on floor zero so its really like living on the fourth floor which is like 8 flights of stairs. Not fun, but walking up and down these stairs will hopefully pay off by the end of semester!

My housemates are great, I live with 3 boys and 8 girls and we all share a kitchen, bathrooms and living room. It's so great, we've all become so close, it feels like I've known some of these people for years.  My roommate is awesome! Out of 1100 people on the program we were randomly placed together, I mean no survey or questionnaire or anything. I got so unbelievably lucky, I seriously couldn't have picked someone better myself.

At first, cooking on my own was a challenge (and its still not easy). Sure I can make eggs and oatmeal and the occasional frozen pizza but that's about it. Fortunately I brought a few jars of trader joes peanut butter (of course) but not enough to maintain this 1 jar a week lifestyle. The first actual dinner meal I made was chicken, something my dad said was hard to get wrong. So, I bought a whole chicken and put it in a pan. Trying to "dress" this chicken was a joke (do you "dress" a chicken or just turkey??). Anyways, if only i had pictures of this.. I had to wash it and then stuff it.. It was comical watching me try and cook. anyways when it came time to put it in the oven, i realized the temperature was in celsius, so I just guessed and  cooked it for an hour or so. When I took it out of the oven, it was definitelyy done. I don't want to say it was the worst thing I ever had.. but nothing I would ever be excited to eat. Haha but I get credit for trying right?

First impressions

The first morning was crazyyy, claire and i were up all night packing for the fourth time,  i think i have way too much lol but brought it all anyways.  you never know, maybe ill need it. And with claire as such a great packer.. it just made sense to take everything that could fit.  Mom and dad took me to the airport and helped me with my bags! Saying goodbye was hard, but this is an opportunity that very few experience And i know ill have the time of my life!

I Had a direct flight from sfo to Frankfurt. It was a 10 hr flight and I was sitting next to a hmc 2012 alumni! What are the chances?!  He was awesome and made the long trip way better. (Yay claremont!) He studied abroad in Budapest two years earlier and gave me a bunch of great places to go and see! Can't wait, this is about to be an incredible 5 months!

There were a bunch of people at the Frankfurt airport that are on the dis program! It was so much fun meeting everyone. After a short flight we landed in Copenhagen and moved into my room! I'm living 3 minutes from campus in a suite with 10 people! They all seem great. We went out to a bar before dinner and had our first Danish beer! Then we found our way back and had a house dinner, the SRA made us Thai food! It was incredible. After I finished unpacking and then we walked around the city by the river. It is such a beautiful city!!
